"Andreas Wolf will miss the game Sunday in Leverkusen. He suffered a small muscle tear in his thigh." With this message, Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf surprised the media representatives at the start of the Friday press conference.

Sebastian Prödl would be a candidate as Wolf's replacement except there is still a minor question mark surrounding Prödl. "Sebastian has been back at training a while and there are improvements in his fitness. What's important is that he didn't have a reaction and has consistently been healing," said Schaaf. Prödl himself added: "I feel good. I have given my all in the last two weeks. The coach decides if I will play." Schaaf meanwhile was more cautious regarding his Brazilian defender Naldo. "The feeling is that Naldo is getting better and better. It should not be forgotten that he has not played in a game for an unbelievably long time. He can control things and is confident in training, but things are different in the game," said Schaaf.
Claudio Pizarro is close to being nominated for the squad. "Claudio trained the whole week. He will at least be in the squad," said Schaaf about the services of the Peruvian at BayArena. The Werder boss has been pleased with Serbian Aleksandar Ignjovski. "He is an option for the squad. He got into the team quickly. I don't have the feeling that ‘Iggy' still has to find his way. He is very motivated and is looking forward to being with us," said Schaaf about Werder's new acquisition, who played earlier in the week with Serbia's U21 national team.
