The question about an appearance by Claudio Pizarro on Sunday could more or less be determined on Friday. The Green-Whites will most likely have to go without their top striker against Stuttgart.
"He hasn't healed as we had hoped. It is rather improbable that we can rely on Claudio Pizarro," said head coach Thomas Schaaf at Friday's official press conference before the game (in full length on WERDER.TV). The coach had been saying the previous couple days that he was confident that the Peruvian would be available despite a knee injury. "I continue to say that I will hope until the kick-off that he can go. I have seen it so often that a player cannot do anything and then the next day he is on the pitch. On the other hand, I have also seen players say they are back but miss the next couple months. I have been around so long that I approach things a little more wait-and-see."
But the coach said he understands all the excitement of the last few days. "I know that the newspapers need to be filled and would preferably write out the results for the rest of the season. But I will put it all together: Claudio Pizarro is suffering from a knee injury, which will need time. No one can say how long it will take. But a little more calmness would do well," said Schaaf.
