Werder captain Clemens Fritz must wait a bit longer for his comeback to the Bundesliga as the 32-year-old had to sit out the home match against Augsburg and his thigh problems will keep him from playing in the match at Borussia Dortmund as well.
"Unfortunately it wasn't enough. The risk would have been too large. My goal is to return to team training at the beginning of next week. But of course I will be travelling to Dortmund to support the team in the stadium," said the captain, who was also missing from the final training, which was closed to the public.
There was better news meanwhile for defensive ace Luca Caldirola, who at least trained with his team-mates Thursday. But it remains to be seen if he is fit enough for an appearance against Dortmund. The decision will be made Friday morning based on how he dealt with the burden of the training a day early with a final test. That will give head coach Robin Dutt clarity if he can rely on the Italian. The coach did not announce the roster Thursday for the game against the Champions League finalist.
