One day after the final match of the calendar year - a 1-1 draw against Nuremberg - the Green-Whites' training grounds remained empty. Head coach Thomas Schaaf sent his players into holidays Sunday evening after the match. "The team has come a long way, even though they have not been rewarded for it. I hope that we can still get the decisive ‘kick'," said the Werder coach shortly before the start of the winter break.

Starting now, Werder players are asked to recharge their batteries. While Sebastian Mielitz and Marko Arnautovic are happy to get the chance to "free their heads and have a break," Kevin De Bruyne is already thinking about the start of the second half of the season against Borussia Dortmund. "We want to go after it again," said the Belgian.

Things will start back up in earnest on 5 January as Marko Arnautovic and the rest of the Werder troops will head off to their winter training camp in Belek from Bremen airport.

The Werder players have two and a half weeks of football-less time. They will be called back to training on 3 January 2013 at 10 a.m. at Weser Stadium's training grounds to work on the fine-tuning for the second half of the season. Two days later, the Werder group travels to the Turkish Riviera in Belek for a training camp. The Green-Whites' first test match will be on Monday 7 January 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Tuttur Cup against Trabzonspor. The match against the eighth placed team in the Turkish Sportoto SüperLig will be played at the Mardan Palace Stadium in Kundur.
