Tim Wiese will not extend his expiring contract at the end of the season and will leave SV Werder Bremen. Manager Klaus Allofs and head coach Thomas Schaaf confirmed that on Thursday 5 April 2012 at the official press conference before the game against Cologne. That means 30 June 2012 will be the final date with Werder for the 30-year-old Wiese, who has been with the club since 2005.

"Tim made the decision. Werder had not decided at all yet. We had a very good time during the seven years. He did a super job, but it's part of football that there is a point in time when you go separate ways," said Allofs. "Tim told me his decision yesterday and I accepted it. He said once again that we had a fruitful seven years from which both sides profited," said Schaaf.

Allofs said the departure of Wiese will be a "loss as a person and a keeper". "But the departure does not mean we don't have any more ambitions. We are convinced that we will have a strong troop next season. We are also well stocked at the keeper position. With Sebastian Mielitz, we have a keeper who always shown in his appearances that he has the stuff to be a number one," said the Werder manager.

"But of course we will acquire another keeper. We have already had some thoughts and it will be a keeper who we think is generally seen as ‘good' and will push the starter. There will not be the Mielitz/Vander constellation," said the 54-year-old.
