Tim Wiese has a reason to be happy these days. The Werder keeper on Monday received the guarantee of starting the Tuesday friendly against Australia from German national team assistant coach Hansi Flick. It will be the fourth cap for the 29-year-old Bremen keeper. Even if it's it "only" a friendly against the Down Under kickers, Wiese still hopes to prove himself. His Werder teammate Per Mertesacker however will be sitting on the bench Tuesday night (kick off 8:45 p.m.). Joachim Löw would like to give his regular starters a break and "offer some of the younger players the chance to show their stuff over 90 minutes".

Three further Werder players will have a chance to prove themselves for their national teams. Petri Pasanen for example will take on Portugal with the Finnish national team in Aveiro (kick off 9:45 p.m.). Claudia Pizarro and Peru are facing Ecuador in Den Haag, Netherlands at 6 p.m. "Piza" will lead the "Blanquirroja" onto the pitch as captain.
Marko Arnautovic and his Austrians will likely have a final chance to remain in the race for the Euro2012 qualification when they take on Turkey in Istanbul at 7:30 p.m. in Group A.
