German national team head coach Joachim Löw initially said a decision about who would man the team's goalkeeper position against France on Wednesday 29 February 2012 would come Monday evening, but his assistant coach Hansi Flick made the announcement Tuesday afternoon: "We will go into the game with Tim Wiese in goal." After being asked about how long Wiese's appearance would be, he added: "He will stay in goal for 90 minutes. It's a chance for him in front of his home crowd to finally bring home a victory with the national team."
The Bremen keeper is still waiting for a success with Germany. He has earned five caps thus far, ending in three draws and two defeats. And he hopes to improve that record on Wednesday. Wiese hopes to bring home an even bigger success this summer with Germany at the 2012 European Championship. "The only goal can be to win the thing. We played an unbelievably good qualification. And the team is certainly much further along than at the 2010 World Cup," Wiese told dfb.de.
One German teammate is especially happy for Wiese. "Tim is a very good goalkeeper. I am happy for him that he can play here in Bremen tomorrow," said Wiese's former Werder teammate Mesut Özil.
