The tough personnel situation for the Green-Whites ahead of the game against Borussia Dortmund got a bit tougher Friday afternoon as Tim Wiese and Philipp Bargfrede both were injured in the final training and had to be stricken from the game roster.
Werder keeper Wiese had to leave the pitch just minutes after training started following a collision with Markus Rosenberg. "Tim was hit in the eye. We took him to the eye clinic just to be safe. An exact examination is being done there now," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs after the end of training. The later diagnosis came back as a fracture between the nose and eye. Wiese is expected to miss two weeks. Bargfrede was forced out of the Dortmund game even earlier with a strained muscle during warm-ups.
Schaaf nominated the following 18 players for the match at Borussia Dortmund: Mielitz, Vander, Sokratis, Affolter, Fritz, Boenisch, Silvestre, Prödl, Hartherz, Schmitz, Kroos, Ignjovski, Ekici, Junuzovic, Trybull, Rosenberg, Füllkrug, Thy.
