Werder players will go through their first training session as a team in preparation for the second half of the Bundesliga on Monday 06 January 2014. Before the team heads to Jerez de la Frontera, Spain for training camp from 8-17 January, a couple of players are expected to come back who labored with injuries at the end of the year. WERDER.DE breaks down how the Green-Whites' injury situation looks going into the start of the second half.
Felix Kroos
The midfielder is working hard on his comeback from a ligament injury on 24 November. "I have had individual trainings since two or three days before the new year. Now we have to see how the ligament handles the stress," said Kroos, who hopes to be on hand at the start of training and at the training camp to work on his comeback. Kroos knows a return to team training isn't realistic until after the stay in Spain.
Clemens Fritz
The team captain assumes he will be back for the start of training on Monday after his muscular problems. "I had a couple of problems with my hip during the time off but I assume that I will be on hand at the start of training on Monday," said Fritz about his first goal for 2014.
Zlatko Junuzovic
After his hairline fracture of the tarsal bone from 09 November, the Austrian will miss the start of training. The midfielder is starting his rehab in Bremen and will still need a good amount of time for his comeback.
Özkan Yildirim
Just like Fritz, Yildirim also went down injured shortly before the last home match. Yildirim was stopped with a knock on his leg in training and could not play against Leverkusen. ‘Ötzi' went through a rehab program until 24 December 2013 and has since received the green light from the club's medical department and is expected to take part in training on Monday.
