SV Werder Bremen continue to look towards the future at the goalkeeper position as they signed Michael Zetterer. The 19-year-old starting keeper at SpVgg Unterhaching and the German U20 national team transfers to Bremen with immediate effect and will take part in the next training sessions with the professionals.
"With Michael Zetterer, we bring in one of the biggest German goalkeeper talents who already has professional experience. The acquisition of Zetterer is a look ahead to the summer. We are happy that we were able to close the deal now," Werder manager of sports Thomas Eichin said after the successful addition.
Viktor Skripnik called for the signing of the 19-year-old along with keeper coach Christian Vander. "We have had an eye on Michael Zetterer for a while now. He fits excellently into our organisation," said the coach. For Zetterer, the transfer to Bremen is a big chance. "I am very happy that such a big club like Werder Bremen is giving me the chance to take the next step in professional football. It will be great challenge for me every day in training," said Zetterer.
Looking ahead to the coming summer, Werder keeper Richard Strebinger will also get the chance to development with match practice as the 21-year-old was sent on loan until the end of the season to Jahn Regensburg in the third division.
After the moves, Eichin added: "We are perfectly equipped at the position between the posts for the rest of the season with (Raphael) Wolf, (Koen) Casteels and Zetterer. We have keepers who can push each other at the Bundesliga level at every training."
