It's been 99 days! That's how long SV Werder have been waiting to play a competitive match. But that ends Sunday 17 August 2014 at 2:30 p.m. when the Green-Whites take on FV Illertissen in the German DFB Cup first round. You could really see how excited the players and coach Robin Dutt are that the three-month break is finally over. "After such a long preparation time, we are all burning for this match. I sense that the guys are motivated going into every session," said the Werder coach, who will make his way for southern Germany with his team after the final session Saturday afternoon.
Dutt said there's only one possible result in the match against the fourth division Regionalliga team - advancing! "We absolutely want to advance and have prepared well for it. We have observed the last four games and gathered a lot of information about the opponent," said the coach. Werder may be favourites going into the match but there are enough warnings from years past.
"We have to make sure that we can keep the confidence that we have built up through the victories in the preparations and respect the opponents. In the cup, there are always close results between Bundesliga and Regionalliga teams," said Dutt. Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt only got the 2-0 goal late in the game in the first round against Illertissen.
