Tuesday started with some great news for SV Werder from the social network world as the Green-Whites eclipsed the 50,000 follower mark on its official Twitter account. Shortly before 10 a.m., Bremen became the second Bundesliga club after double winners Borussia Dortmund to attract that much attention on their social media platform.

"This is a great success for us and a development of which we are very proud. We have gradually improved our activities through this channel to further expand our offering and increase its attractiveness," said media director Tino Polster.

In the last few weeks, there have been regular live chats with players at @werderbremen as well as the opportunity to ask questions to a selected player after a Bundesliga home match, which would then be answered via video. "In addition, we are continually trying to keep the fans up to date in real time through Twitter from away trips, training camps and Bundesliga press conferences," said Michael Rodolph, head of the CLUB MEDIA department, which deals with the Green-Whites' digital media channels.

Media director Tino Polster, Werder's deputy press spokesman Michael Rudolph and social media and online editor Dominik Kupilas have regularly been on Twitter since the summer for Werder fans, who were first able to use the service at the German DFB Cup final in 2010.
