SV Werder Bremen are continuing the major overhaul to their roster as Werder manager Klaus Allofs announced at the official press conference on Thursday that Markus Rosenberg will leave the club at the end of the season. "The decision was not easy. Markus is a reliable player who also did all he could with his possibilities. In the end, he just scored too few goals and we decided to do something new in the attack," said Allofs.
But the Swedish international isn't the only player who will get an official farewell on Saturday before the home match against Schalke along with Tim Wiese and Marko Marin. Mikael Silvestre and Lennart Thy will also not be coming back to Werder after the season. "Mikael came to us two years ago and always handled himself correctly. He helped us with his experience but it was not a big success story," said Allofs about the Frenchman.
Werder's bosses would have liked to have kept the youngster Thy. "But only under the condition that we would have sent him somewhere on loan. Lennart however decided for another way and you have to accept that," said Allofs.
The situation is different for Christian Vander. The reserve keeper will remain with Werder. "He will stay with us. We also had the thoughts of keeping him in goalkeeping training after his active career and then come up with the corresponding contract," said the Werder manager. "With the departure of Tim Wiese, we will bring in another keeper and then have another solution at the position along with (Sebastian) Mielitz and Vander."
Allofs would not make any comments about any possible additions. "We want to improve the quality of the roster. I don't know if that will happen with young or old players. The change is big, but we have an exact picture of the future team in mind. And of course we have names in that picture," said Allofs.
