Werder's trio of Austrians Marko Arnautovic, Sebastian Prödl and Zlatko Junuzovic had to accept a 3-0 defeat at home at the hands of Ivory Coast. Arnautovic played the full 90 minutes while Prödl came on for the second half to replace fellow Bundesliga player Emanuel Pogatetz and head coach Marcel Koller did not give Junuzovic an appearance.
Sokratis and Greece beat Ireland 1-0 in Dublin with the Werder defender playing the entire match.
