"I don't know any club in which this kind of convention takes place and management persons and members are open to questions in this open manner," said honorary council chairman Peter Eilers about the annual Werder Convention.
The Werder Convention 2013, which took place Wednesday night and lasted nearly two hours, did have some special characteristics. For the first time, Thomas Eichin and Robin Dutt took part in the convention, which Werder Bremen has held since 1924. Members once again had the opportunity at this event to pose questions to the "makers" at Werder Bremen. And about 60 members took this unique chance to experience more about the inner workings at Werder Bremen. Managers Klaus-Dieter Fischer, Klaus Filbry and Eichin and head coach Dutt all held an opening speech after which the members could ask their questions.
"I think solidarity within the club is a very important thing," said Peter Eilers about why the honorary council annually invites people to this event.
Issues such as the economical well-being of the club and the development of the team since the arrival of Dutt were discussed in a relaxed atmosphere.
Until 20 years ago, the event was run under the name Altherren (Old Gentlemen's) Convention and only men over 35 years of age were allowed to enter and women were not allowed to take part. This has fundamentally changed in the last two decades. The age limit was eliminated and women have been welcomed for many years.
The Werder family has greatly increased in the last 10 years. Traditions like this dialog are groomed and can be maintained. And this year's Werder Convention proved that impressively.
