Scoring goals had been difficult for Wagner until recently. "I am a player who always gives his all. As striker you sometimes need luck as well as confidence. That's why you can't be mad at someone if they don't score. Sometimes there's a click and it flows again," said the 1.94m tall 23-year-old forward.
Wagner: "I received a lot of support"
After the goal a week earlier in Freiburg, it "clicked" again Saturday evening in the 39th minute. After a cross by Pizarro, Wagner extended in the air and nodded the ball in fine fashion across the line. This scene alone displayed the new-found confidence Wagner has collected. But afterwards, Wagner downplayed his showing especially after the Green-Whites failed to collect the three points. "I have received a lot of support from the coach and manager lately. But I hope that I can still give back more in the next few weeks. I'm not worried about my own state. What's important is that we are successful as a team," said the former Duisburg player.
