The football boots initially remained packed away in the sports bags as Werder's first training session of the week did not take place on the pitch but in front of the television in the changing room. The Werder players and coaching staff spent Monday morning analyzing their 3-0 loss at Cologne from over the weekend. "We watched the game. The coach said some things about some actions. We also could not explain why we played how we did in Cologne," said Aaron Hunt after the intensive video study session in the catacombs of Weser Stadium.
Dominik Schmidt, Tim Borowski and Christian Vander completed a training session in the afternoon.
After a small break, the players then had the chance to implement their findings from the collective video session. Before the team took the pitch at 3 p.m., banged up players Tim Borowski, Dominik Schmidt and Christian Vander went through running training as well as fitness and coordination drills with fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel. Missing from team training later was Petri Pasanen. "He got a dead leg in the Cologne game, but he should be back by Wednesday at the latest," said assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff. The coaching staff also hopes that Schmidt and "Boro" return to team training over the course of the week. "But we first have to see how they react to the mid-day session," said Rolff.
