It was a march of disappointed, scolded and beaten Werder players who made their way through the media members Saturday afternoon. Werder once again lost an important match in the fight for qualification for the Europa League. And the overwhelming opinion of the team was that they were "very, very dumb and naïve". The reason? Wolfsburg scored two goals in counter attacks following Werder set pieces.
Reaction to match
Thomas Schaaf:
It is so aggravating today because we had a good first half with some good pushes forward. We had a lot of chances in the first half because we played much better. But we didn't use them at all. I cannot take anything positive from this match today. We have to continue to work this week, analyse, prepare and repair.
Klaus Allofs:
We did not play well today. It's not enough for the Europa League. We just have to learn to implement our game plan for 90 minutes and not just two-thirds of the game.
Aaron Hunt:
We were just too naïve today. For 20 minutes we played very well but then did not score the goals. And then we allowed them to counter attack us it seemed like 10 times after our own set pieces. That is amateur-like and cannot happen.
Claudio Pizarro:
We are hugely disappointed. We all imagined something different but we did not use our chances and just lost too many easy balls and were too open in the back.
