There will be plenty of spraying done this season at Weser Stadium and other pitches around the Bundesliga. The heads of the German Football League (DFL) on Monday unanimously approved to implement in the Bundesliga the vanishing spray which was started at the World Cup in Brazil. Werder players could encounter the white spray already in the first away match against Hertha Berlin. But the German Football Federation (DFB) must still clarify the final details. The spray should help the referees to better position the ball and wall for free kicks. What do the players think of the possible use of the spray?
WERDER.DE talked to a few of the Green-Whites and put together their opinions of the vanishing spray.
Izet Hajrovic: "I think its implementation is a good idea, I had a good experience with it at the World Cup in Brazil. The spray makes sure that the free kick wall maintains the necessary distance. Besides, you spray it on quickly and it's gone right away. So there are no problems."
Raphael Wolf: "I think it's really good because you will stop people from keep moving the ball in different positions to change the angle. There's really nothing to talk about. For me as keeper, it's easier to set up the wall and determine how many people I need in there."
Clemens Fritz: "The position of the wall and the ball is often changed. The spray is a good means to better control these changes and hopefully stop it. It worked well at the World Cup in Brazil. I am certain that it can help in the Bundesliga as well."
Fin Bartels: "I am not really a big set piece specialist and we haven't practiced it in training yet, but I could imagine it might irritate the shooter a bit."
