With Werder's senior internationals at their respective national teams for two days now, Bremen's U20 German internationals Tom Trybull, Florian Hartherz and Johannes Wurtz headed to the junior national team for two tests against Switzerland.
Frank Wormuth's German U20 team will take on the Swiss U20 side on Friday in Cologne at 5 p.m. before playing Switzerland again on Tuesday in Basle at 7 p.m. The test matches will be a chance for Wurtz to gain some match practice after returning to training last week following a two week injury break with a foot problem.
Özkan Yildirim meanwhile was nominated as a possible late call-up but practiced with the Werder professionals on Tuesday, just like Levent Aycicek, who returned to the game action for the first time after an 18-month injury break in the Werder's U19 team 3-2 win on Sunday.
