While the whole of Germany is in seventh football heaven after the national team won the World Cup title, two Werder talents are preparing for their own personal summer fairy tale. German Davie Selke and Florian Grillitsch of Austria will be playing at the U19 European Championship starting this weekend in Hungary. WERDER.DE talked to both of the players before they left.
WERDER.DE: The European Championship starts on Saturday. You must be pretty excited ...
DAVIE SELKE: Of course. Especially after watching the World Cup victory from Sunday, you really cannot wait for such a tournament. We want to follow the lead of the senior national team and bring the Euro title back to Germany.
FLORIAN GRILLITSCH: Austria doesn't always qualify for these big tournaments. Maybe this U19 European Championship is the only one I will play. So, of course I am really excited as well.
You both could not meet until the semi-final. Who would then win?
FLORIAN GRILLITSCH: Of course us. Facing Germany always means a lot so we would be even more motivated. But I would rather wait until the final to face them. That would be a dream.
DAVIE SELKE: A final against Austria of course would be great. But sorry Florian, of course we would win then. (laughs).
