Also not on the pitch for training was youth keeper Bernd Düker. The 19-year-old was a late addition to the German U20 national team by head coach Frank Wormuth. Training took place without the three Werder players but there were two new faces on the grounds in 24-year-old keeper Radek Petr from the Czech Republic and 25-year-old Greek Georgios Galitsios. Petr, who has been with the Belgian second division side AS Eupen since 2009 and was FC Parma's third keeper a year before that, caught the attention of observers in 2007 when he guided the Czechs to the final of the U20 World Cup in Canada before losing to Argentina and striker star Sergio Agüero.
Right back Galitsios was even called into the Greek roster by former national team coach Otto Rehhagel for the World Cup playoffs against Ukraine in November 2009 but did not appear in a game. "He was recently under contract with Olympiacos Piraeus but is currently without a club. We will take a look at him for a couple days. Maybe he can even play in the test match against Braunschweig," said manager Klaus Allofs.
"First I would like see if they can keep up the tempo," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. "We have some information about both of these players which we want to look at. The international week allows us a good chance for that."
