The official start of training for the 2013-14 season may not come until Friday 28 June 2013, but some players have been on the pitch for a couple of weeks. That was the case Tuesday morning for long-term injured players Tom Trybull and Niclas Füllkrug as well as Cimo Röcker and U23 player Torben Rehfeldt.
While Trybull had been out since April with a right ankle surgery, Werder have been without Füllkrug since December 2012 with cartilage damage in his knee. Now both of them are going full out. "We really didn't have any summer break because we've been training since the end of the season. But we feel really good," said Füllkrug. Trybull also spent the past few weeks solely in Bremen, saying: "I had the goal of being fit for Friday and I think that I am on a good track for that."
The top priority for both Werder players is of course to stay clear of injuries during the preparations. If either 20-year-old could come up with an appearance here or there, then it's all the better. "Of course it depends on how I present myself to the new coach and what I can offer the team," said Trybull. Füllkrug would like to fight for a starting spot with the Green-Whites "even if it will certainly be difficult."
Until the first official training session under head coach Robin Dutt, the young players will work out individually the next couple days. You can certainly see they are excited about training starting back up again!
