There are just two days until the 33rd game day and everyone along the Weser are anxiously awaiting the new German champions Borussia Dortmund. The Green-Whites would like to finally secure their place in the Bundesliga for next season because the lack of clarity sports-wise is causing some problems regarding personnel planning for next season. "We cannot finalise anything personnel-wise as long as we don't know what direction it will be going," said Klaus Allofs about the importance of the past weeks and their impact on the club.
But Werder's bosses are not standing by idle heading into the final games of the Bundesliga. Just the opposite is the case as Werder's chairman of the board of directors on Thursday confirmed a meeting with bosses from AC Milan this week in the Italian metropolis. "Yes, that took place. But it only had to do with international contacts," was Allofs' explanation. Nothing else can be done at the moment.
Other personnel decisions will have to wait due to the situation on the table. Allofs did not want to talk about possible candidates on Werder's wish list. "We are responsible for reporting facts, and there is nothing to report. It's well known what position we're looking for. And you can imagine what players you could consider," said Allofs without saying too much. Besides defenders, Werder leadership hinted after the game against Wolfsburg that they would be looking for an offensive midfielder as well. "We know that we didn't play with as much creativity this year. We have to do a better job next year," said Allofs after the loss against Wolfsburg.
Allofs mentioned one name in his short statement about the status of personnel planning - Marko Marin. "He has continually been named in the speculation of the recent days. But I can assure that he was not a topic in the talks with the colleagues from AC Milan," Allofs said, denying media reports of a possible move.
Another person waiting until the status of staying in the league is answered is captain Torsten Frings. "When we know where we are sports-wise, then we will deal with this question immediately thereafter. That won't happen right after the final whistle, but right away in the days afterwards," said Allofs. What is clear is the departures of Petri Pasanen and Daniel Jensen. "We will bid farewell to them on Saturday. We have prepared something," admitted the manager.
Quite a bit depends on the game on Saturday. So Allofs's message was no surprise: "There can only be one motto: Make everything clear!"
