After securing their spot in the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen management can finally move forward in personnel planning for next season. "We always stick to what we say and that means that we will be holding the next talks in the coming days. We saw today that two changes are already set in the departures of Petri (Pasanen) and Daniel (Jensen). Now we will have talks with Torsten Frings and some young Werder players," said manager Klaus Allofs. Also already determined is that the Brazilian Samuel will not be offered a new contract and will leave Werder.

Samuel leaving Werder after the season

After the three departures from Jensen, Pasanen and Samuel, there will be new acquisitions coming this summer to the roster. "We will sign players who can make sure that the mistakes that were made this year are not repeated - players who are a match for us and can quickly be integrated into the team. Because whenever we played as a team we played very well. But it took a while before we realised that this season," said Allofs.

The spirit of team shall also play a critical role in putting together the roster. "That is not so easy, but that's exactly the point why Dortmund won the championship and why Hannover and Mainz are playing up near the top. They were among the best this season to play for one another. And that was the point that had made us so strong in the past seven years," added Allofs.

Allofs did admit that the compilation of the team will have to fit into somewhat smaller financial means this year. "We have to save and that means being a bit resourceful. But that is not a new situation for us. It's actually always been like that for us, that we have less financial means than the opponents with the similar goals."

The sporting bosses enjoy plenty of support from the Werder players. "I don't need to worry at all about that. I am heading on holidays after the last match and Klaus and Thomas will decide everything else. Of course I hope that we bring in some good players to play a good season. We still belong up near the top of the standings and we want to show that again," said Claudio Pizarro.

Mikael Silvestre made clear that an improvement in the team does not only need to come from personnel changes. "Every one of us has to look at their performance this season and analyse where they can improve. And Klaus Allofs and Thomas Schaaf will certainly make some decisions in that regard as well," said Silvestre.
