SV Werder Bremen have made the first acquisition for next season as midfielder Fin Bartels will move to the Green-Whites on a free transfer from St. Pauli. The 26-year-old signed a three-year contract.

Werder manager Thomas Eichin is looking forward to the first new addition in 2014. "Fin is a northern German player with first division experience. He will not need time to acclimate himself and fits excellently with his quality into our team. In the second division, Fin is currently among the best offensive players. I am certain that he still has room to development. With him, we added another option among our offensive ranks," said Eichin.

Head coach Robin Dutt has had the offensive all-arounder in his sights for some time. "I have observed his career over the years. And you have to say that he has developed far enough that he is a reinforcement for our team," said Dutt.

Bartels has played 19 matches this season in the second division for St. Pauli in which he has scored six goals. He gained attention in December 2013 for being nominated for the Goal of the Month.

The Kiel native started his football career with his hometown club Holsten Kiel. From there, he transferred to Hansa Rostock in 2007 before heading on to St. Pauli for the 2010-11 season. All told, he played 50 Bundesliga matches and scored six goals. He also had appeared in 136 second division matches, scoring 29 goals. Bartels also earned one cap for the German U21 national team.
