Certainly not all of them were there for congratulations. The major increase in fans along the Werder training grounds Tuesday morning most likely had more to do with the start of Easter school holidays in Bremen. Hundreds of Green-Whites supporters took advantage of the wonderful spring weather to get a close-up look at their favourite players.

But the fans did not get a chance to see Tim Borowski or Denni Avdic as neither Werder player could take part in team training. But head coach Thomas Schaaf said "maybe they can get back at it tomorrow." Borowski is dealing with foot problems and Avdic is also banged up.

There were positive signs about Philipp Bargfrede and Felix Wiedwald. While Werder's midfielder Bargfrede was nearly without pain during training with his teammates, the 21-year-old keeper Wiedwald made his return between the posts. Wiedwald had been training as a position player the past couple weeks due to a broken thumb. But he was back to his usual work of stopping goals. "I still have to wear the brace on the thumb for another week, but it's a lot better," said Wiedwald after his first stress test with his teammates. "The last check-up from last Thursday was positive and I don't have any pain," said the U23 player. Bargfrede was able to say the same thing. "The foot is doing really well," said the 22-year-old, who was also dealing with a cold the past couple days. "I was missing a bit of strength but I will get that back in the next few sessions."

There was also a small surprise at the end of the training in the build-up to the St. Pauli match as birthday boy Marko Arnautovic had prepared some snacks for his teammates and left for the changing room some bags in his arms.
