The captain is back on board! Clemens Fritz officially returned to Green-Whites team training Tuesday morning. The team went through a lactate test in the morning and then a full normal session in the afternoon.

The captain had been out since two days before the home match against Augsburg on 17 August with a thigh injury before the 32-year-old returned after missing a week and a half. "I went through normal rehab training and have been back on the pitch for a couple days. I worked in an interval program with shooting training, challenges and sprints so that I would be well-prepared for team training," said Fritz.

The Werder veteran was anxious to return for the match last weekend against Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. "I watched the match in the stands but still it's never fun to follow matches from the crowd when you want to support the team on the pitch," said Fritz, who is looking forward to playing this weekend against Borussia Mönchengladbach. "Since I trained normally again today, I hope to be on hand on Saturday in Gladbach. The muscle has until now reacted well to the burden and if nothing happens, it should be okay on the weekend," said the captain.

The captain will not have to worry about his fitness levels as he completed a lactate test Tuesday morning. Head coach Robin Dutt said the lactate test will be important for the team's work at training. "We are trying to implement this performance diagnostic over periodical intervals because we always want to know if the training is properly measured. The day-to-day business does not always allow that but we are still planning to have a lactate test at least every two months," said Dutt, who will have access to the data on Wednesday.
