The training group Friday afternoon was manageable with only 18 players on the training grounds in front of Weser Stadium in the penultimate session before the home match on Sunday 13 February 2011 at 5:30 p.m. against Hannover. The main reason for that was that half a dozen players left half an hour before training with the U23 team on the bus to their third division away match in Rostock. In addition to Pascal Tertroet, Lennart Thy and Florian Trinks, also supporting youth head coach Thomas Wolter's team will be Predrag Stevanovic, Leon Balogun and keeper Felix Wiedwald. "After the game I will talk to Thomas Wolter and then decide which of them will come to the roster for the Hannover match," said head coach Thomas Schaaf, who added: "Felix Wiedwald will definitely be there."
Three others were neither on the bus Friday with the third league footballers nor on the Green-Whites training grounds. Marko Marin remained in the changing rooms with slight adductors problems but hopes to take part in the final training on Saturday. Sandro Wagner (infection) and Tim Borowski (back problems) were still out. "Maybe Sandro can have a light go at it tomorrow. But Tim's back problems were so bad that he had to break off training on Thursday and will not be available on the weekend," said Schaaf.
Praise for Avdic, Wesley is getting better
Another player had a good showing at the training game. Denni Avdic went after balls, collected balls and also beat the keeper a couple times. Avdic, who transferred from the Swedish league to Bremen during the winter break, is making his way more and more into the Green-Whites' team. And head coach Thomas Schaaf personally praised him two days before the home match against Hannover. "He's getting better all the time. I followed him intensively this week in his actions. He can do more and more things regarding moving towards the goal," said the coach at the mid-day press conference. Schaaf also said the attacker still has room for improvement. "Of course we haven't been able to realise everything 100 percent, but in general the situation is better," said the coach.
Schaaf also said that things are getting "better by the day" regarding Brazilian Wesley. The midfielder, who has been out with a muscle injury since the away match against Schalke in mid-November, has already completed a few interval training runs. "We are planning on bringing him back into ‘normal' training in the next few days. I cannot say exactly which day that will happen," said Schaaf.
The Green-Whites however will have to do without Daniel Jensen still for a couple weeks. The Danish international is still battling knee problems. "He has not been able to get rid of them. He still has to work on rehab," said Schaaf.
