Thomas Schaaf had more than one reason to be happy on Tuesday. The Werder coach celebrated his 52nd birthday and also had a further alternative for his side, with Kevin De Bruyne returning in time to offer the coach another option for the visit of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday. The Belgian midfielder was back on the pitch for the first time since incurring a thigh injury.
"It's getting better day-by-day. I hope to be back for the game against Hoffenheim and want to help the team take the three points. That's unbelievably important for the club," commented Kevin De Bruyne upon his return on Tuesday morning.
Last Saturday, the 21 year old was damned to watch on from the sidelines and De Bruyne was just as impressed as his teammate Nils Petersen at just how fervently his team was fired on by the Green-White fateful. The striker is eager to "pay something back" to the fans against 1899: "We want to enjoy that unity with the fans at home too and with a win we could also thank them for the support they have given us," said Petersen.
