Punctual for the 10 a.m. session Tuesday morning 29 November 2011, the Werder players gathered in front of the changing rooms. While most of the Green-Whites headed to the Platz 4 grounds, three Werder players turned away beforehand as Claudio Pizarro, Denni Avdic and Predrag Stevanovic headed to the grounds for the obligatory final training. They had with them both their running and football boots.
While "Piza" and Avdic completed a running session with physiotherapist Sven Plagge, Stevanovic went through an interval training with Florian Lauerer as well as coordinative drills. "I am doing well," said Pizarro after his session. The Peruvian, who missed the 2-0 victory over Stuttgart with a knee injury, is getting closer and closer to returning to the team.
"Still at the beginning," was Avdic's response to where he is at. Werder's Swedish striker has not played a single minute in the Bundesliga this season since he missed the season preparations with a hip problem and even had to undergo surgery. "We are happy that Denni has started to run," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.
Predrag Stevanovic meanwhile has been working individually on the pitch for about two weeks. "Starting tomorrow, I would like to start working with Benni on conditioning. My goal is to return to team training by the end of the year through the U23s," said the older of the Stevanovic brothers. Tim Wiese missed today's training for private reasons while Clemens Fritz had to leave early with a pinched nerve in his back.
