The first step back to team training is done! Marko Arnautovic completed a running training on Thursday together with Mehmet Ekici, Sebastian Prödl, Tim Borowski, Aaron Hunt and Predrag Stevanovic. "It's surprising that I am this far already. I have a strong knee. It still twitches here and there but the physiotherapy is going great," said Arnautovic, himself surprised with the developments he's made in the three weeks since his injury. The 22-year-old suffered his injury while playing with his dog.
Ekici is currently out with a pelvic problem but was able to be part of the running group on Thursday. "The running today was okay. But it's not enough yet for Saturday. I am having intensive treatment and have everything under control. I cannot yet say when I will get back to team training," said the Turkish international.
Back in training however was Marko Marin. The 23-year-old increased the number of healthy Werder players on Thursday to 25. "I am doing really well again. I went through the session without any difficulties," said Marin after his return. But the midfielder does not yet know if he will be ready for the game on Sunday against Mainz. "I have to check with the doctor again and talk to the coach. I have another training tomorrow. Then I will know more." The decision will be made after the final training - just like with Naldo. The Brazilian, who has not played a match this season, has been part of team training for more than a week. "We have to wait and see how Naldo deals with everything. The same goes for Naldo," said head coach Thomas Schaaf to the unanswered questions ahead of the Mainz match.
