Cedrick Makiadi assisted on the goal to give Green-Whites the 1-0 lead against Bayern Munich with a through ball to Theodor Gebre Selassie. But Makiadi was forced to sit out of training on Monday with Patella tendon irritation which will keep the Congolese midfielder out indefinitely for head coach Robin Dutt.
"I will go through a rehab program in the coming days and see how it goes day by day," said Makiadi. It was a bitter pill to swallow for the 30-year-old midfielder who had recently worked his way back into the Werder starting line-up with strong performances. And the injury is very aggravating looking ahead to the final home match of the season against Hertha Berlin because not only the team but Makiadi personally wanted to bid farewell to their fans with a good showing. "We want to say goodbye to our great fans with three points at home. I hope that I can be back on the pitch," said Werder's No. 6.
In addition to Makiadi, winter addition Ludovic Obraniak also was out of training again as Werder's free kick artist has been labouring with a hardened left calf muscle since last Thursday and missed the Bayern Munich match.
Zlatko Junuzovic also missed team training Monday afternoon. The Austrian international went through an individual program away from the team training with athletics trainer Reinhard Schnittker. ‘Juno' assured that it was solely a precautionary measure. "I have irritation in my right knee. I should be able to get back into full training in the coming days," said the midfielder.
