It's odd how often Werder Bremen have been hit with the injury bug this season - with the injuries still coming at the end of the season. After Sandro Wagner had twisted an ankle in a challenge Tuesday morning and had to leave training early, the striker was still not back on the pitch on Wednesday. "He can't go yet," said Werder coach Thomas Schaaf. "The ankle and the ligaments were hit kind of hard." Wagner's availability for the game on Friday against Wolfsburg is still in question. "We hope that he will be back by then," said Schaaf about Wagner. "It's the left ankle that hurts," said Wagner. "But I still hope that I can be back by Friday."

"Continue streak and make everything clear"

Schaaf could eliminate a nomination for Denni Avdic and Tim Borowski. "Tim will be out until the weekend for sure. It's really aggravating that he keeps getting set back," sighed Schaaf, who also said things will take a while with Avdic as well. "We have to work him back in step-by-step," said the coach.

Marko Marin however was able to return to the pitch Wednesday after recovering from his ankle problems. "Everything is okay," said the midfielder, who hopes to be fine for the Friday match. "We want to continue the streak of eight straight unbeaten games and make everything clear," said Torsten Frings.

"We had to quiver long enough and want to finally have some peace with a victory," added the Werder captain. "But we will need to have a top performance because Wolfsburg have stabilised themselves and have a big chance to leave the relegation ranks with a victory." The fans at the sold-out Weser Stadium can also look forward to a real thriller.
