Those expecting a full training grounds at Weser Stadium in the middle of the week were disappointed. After SVW went a good seven days without 13 international players, head coach Thomas Schaaf was still missing numerous players for Wednesday's session despite some players returning.
Mehmet Ekici and Mateo Pavlovic both were able to go all-out in training but Theodor Gebre Selassie and Kevin De Bruyne completed only a light running program. Among those still not back were the Austrian trio of Zlatko Junuzovic, Marko Arnautovic and Sebastian Prödl. "It was pretty chaotic at Dublin airport this morning and those three will not land in Bremen until early in the evening," said Schaaf. The coach expects to miss Junuzovic for some time after the 24-year-old suffered a laceration on his right knee during Austria's 2-2 draw against Ireland. "He will be examined as soon as he's in Bremen," said Schaaf, who will then know how long Junuzovic will be out.
Aleksandar Ignjovski also returned with a problem as the Serbian left the national team on Monday and could not take part in training with his upper abdomen issue. "It's not ruled out that Iggy could play this weekend. There is still hope," said Schaaf.
