Felix Kroos was subbed out due to injury shortly before the halftime whistle of the match Tuesday evening against Wolfsburg. Subsequent examinations by Werder Bremen's medical department determined that the defensive midfielder suffered a capsular injury in his left knee as well a bone compression. He will miss the coming weeks.
The incident happened in the 41st minute as Kroos tried to separate Wolfsburg's Maximilian Arnold from the ball in a challenge but his left foot got caught on the pitch. The 23-year-old returned to the pitch afterwards but notified the coaching staff a short time later that he needed to be subbed out.
While Kroos spent Wednesday being treated by team doctor Götz Dimanski, his teammates trained on the Weser Stadium training grounds. Instead of the usual rundown the day after a Bundesliga match, the Werder players went through an intensive training session. After doing some laps with the athletics trainer Reinhard Schnittker, head coach Robin Dutt split the players up into two teams, who then played about an hour against each other.
Santiago Garcia was also on the pitch with his teammates albeit working out individually following the collective running session. The left back has missed the last couple of matches due to a partial ligament tear in his right knee.
