In the end everything went so quickly. Leaving the training camp in Malaga, Spain; negotiations in Zurich; departure for Bremen; quick introduction session with his colleagues; medical check-up at Links der Weser Clinic; signing the contract at Weser Stadium; presentation at the official press conference; and then a short individual training session on the Weser Stadium training grounds. Within nearly three days, Werder's Swiss new acquisition Francois Affolter finished his trip through three European countries to his new home Bremen.
"I had very good talks with the heads of SV Werder. Now I am proud to be here. The transfer is a big chance for me. I am looking forward to the next days," said the 20-year-old at the presentation at the official press conference.
Affolter then completed his first training session wearing the number 3. "I am happy to finally move around on real grass again. In Bern we only played on artificial turf. I didn't like that very much," said Affolter. Earlier Wednesday morning - shortly before 11 a.m. - Werder's group of injured players increased by one member. This time it was Marko Arnautovic as the Austrian striker had to leave training early with back pain. One of Werder's long-term injured players meanwhile took a step forward as Tim Borowski has been working with the ball for a couple days. "You can see steps forward with me every day. The work with the ball is going very well thus far," said Borowski.
