The training week ahead of the North Derby against Hamburg went entirely different for Özkan Yildirim and Lukas Schmitz. For Yildirim, it hasn't been some very good days. Since his last match with the German U21 national team two weeks ago, the problems in the cervical vertebrae have been slower to go away than originally hoped.
"I will miss the final training" said Yildirim beforehand and proved correct. The last training session before the North Derby took place without him as he had limited freedom of movement in the head region. "I hope that I can get back as soon as possible," said the 20-year-old.
The news is more positive with Schmitz, who was able to return to the pitch albeit a bit later than he had hoped. The left foot specialist is happy to have completed his comeback from a broken foot. "Now I have to try to fight back into the team as quickly as possible. The return to team training is only the first step," said Schmitz.
