The self-confidence is back! The two 1-0 victories in Braunschweig and against Augsburg have given the Werder players a lot of confidence going into the week of training. The coming opponent is now Borussia Dortmund. The Green-Whites would also like to spring a surprise in the Ruhr region Friday evening 23 August 2013 at 8:30 p.m. To be adequately prepared for that, the sweat was flowing at the Tuesday session - albeit without Luca Caldirola.

The new acquisition from Inter Milan, who played an important role in the four-man back-line last Saturday against Augsburg, missed training with a slight tendon strain in his left ankle. Head coach Robin Dutt could not say Tuesday afternoon if Caldirola would be available for the team on Friday.

Still, Dutt is confident the team will have a stable defence without Caldirola. "Of course Luca has now played two good matches. But we have the big plus that we have a very good bench at the moment. Whether it's players like Aleksandar Ignjovski or Felix Kroos, they can all give us the necessary stability on defence," said Dutt.

Assani Lukimya talked about how the team put together their consistency on defence. "The coach wanted to improve the defence so we've been working on that from the very first day, working on us thinking defensively. As soon as the ball is lost in the midfield, we all head back immediately. That does everyone good and it's just great when you can always rely on your team-mates."

Goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz knows the defensive work will be the key in front of 80,000 fans at Signal Iduna Park. "We need to keep a clean sheet, as long as that happens we cannot lose," said ‘Miele'. "We just have to play compactly in the back and try to put out the flames further up. Then it could work out."
