Werder's strikers seem to be taking turns being hurt. While one returned to team training Wednesday morning, another had to take a break as Denni Avdic and Sandro Wagner swapped roles. Avdic was somewhat restrained but still worked out with his teammates on the pitch. Wagner meanwhile worked out individually with assistant coach Matthias Hönerbach in the weight room. "He had some problems already yesterday with his adductors and therefore could not take part," said head coach Thomas Schaaf after the short 90-minute session about his 23-year-old player being out. Wagner tested it again today, Schaaf said, but he "should be able to go tomorrow."

Avdic: "Wake up my brain, wake up my muscles"

At that point Avdic had his first session back with his teammates behind him as the Swede was given the green light after recovering from his bruised cheekbone and lingering headaches. "It felt very good again and was really fun being back on the pitch," said the 22-year-old. "It really had gotten boring in the last couple days as I couldn't do anything," said Avdic with a grin. "During the day I didn't have any problems but evenings I really had bad headaches." But those are now over with. "I don't have any pain now," said Avdic. If everything goes as planned in the next couple sessions, Avdic said: "Of course I will be available on Saturday in St. Pauli."

Tim Borowski cannot say that as the 30-year-old had to sit out of Wednesday's team training, instead going through rehab treatment at Weser Stadium and worked out individually on his return to training. When that will happen remains unknown.
