There was one piece of bad news but three good news items from training Sunday morning at Weser Stadium. Left back Santiago Garcia had to sit out of training after the Munich match with minor knee problems but was able to complete an individual session on the bike.
Theodor Gebre Selassie was a different story as the right back was able to train fully with the team for the first time after being out since the beginning of the season with an oedema in his right thigh. "I am very happy to go through everything again and not have any problems. Now I am fully back with the team, also in the up-coming days. That's the most important thing for me," said the Czech international. Gebre Selassie said he is still missing some power from being out so long but he added: "That will coming in the next few days and weeks once I train again regularly with the team."
Also back on the pitch - and with a big smile - was the new papa Philipp Bargfrede. After missing a number of months, the 27-year-old went through the warm-up program with his teammates and then completed a light running training afterwards. "It feels good to be back on the pitch," said the Werder midfielder. In addition to Bargfrede and Gebre Selassie, a third long-term injured player was back on the grounds in Luca Zander, who just like Gebre Selassie, also went through the full training program.
