Good news for Werder as Özkan Yildirim was able to complete the full training session Tuesday afternoon. It had been more than five weeks since ‘Ötzi' suffered a cervical spine injury during the German U21 national team's game against Faroe Island, and the midfielder could only participate in limited training. But on Tuesday he was relieved that he could finally go all out with his teammates. "Finally I could take part in all parts of training. I still sense it a bit at times. But when I'm on the pitch, I don't have hardly any problems. Altogether I got through the training pretty good," Yildirim told WERDER.DE.
‘Ötzi' has been training for a few days with the team but had to sit out all challenge drills. The German-Turk is not yet sure if he will be ready for a roster spot in the team's next match against Freiburg. "Conditionally, I am doing well since I was able to do some running sessions over the last couple weeks. Now I hope that the condition stays this way. Unfortunately it's only four more days until the match. Of course I will try to be an option for the coach for the match on Saturday," said Yildirim.
Another option for the Freiburg match is Martin Kobylanski, who was in action with the Polish U20 national team over the weekend. The 19-year-old played the entire match in Poland's 2-1 victory over Switzerland in Le Bouveret last Friday.
