Following the first test match defeat of 2013-14 at VfL Osnabrück, Werder head coach Robin Dutt had his troops going full steam during Monday's sessions. While Mehmet Ekici was able to train without problems after his short break, Özkan Yildirim sat out training.
"Memo" went through the normal training program after taking a four-day rest and regeneration break due to swelling in his knee. "I didn't have any more problems. Everything worked well," said the Werder player after training.
But Dutt cannot plan with Yildirim in the immediate future. "We had hoped that he would only be out a couple of days. But we determined that the ligament is not entirely stable. We want to get a second opinion, so Ötzi went to see the knee specialist Dr. Boenisch in Augsburg," said the 48-year-old coach. After that, Dutt and Dr. Götz Dimanski's medical team will decide together when Yildirim will be able to continue training. Yildirim strained his knee ligament on Norderney.
The remaining Werder players completed two intensive training sessions on Monday. "All told, we will start working on more complex things now. We will no longer split the training into offence and defence. The focus today once again was defensive conduct and moving in space. But we will still work on setting up the offence. That will be the next focus at the third training camp next week," said Dutt about his training goals for the coming days. The coach would like to get a positive result in the team's next test match against PEC Zwolle on Wednesday 17 July 2013.
