Sebastian Prödl, Marko Arnautovic and Zlatko Junuzovic returned to training on Thursday and started their preparations for the home match against SC Freiburg on Saturday.
"I was able to train pain-free today. Now we have to see if there are any problems tomorrow. Then I will be positive that I can go on Saturday," said Junuzovic, who like Arnautovic was labouring with muscular problems. Arnautovic also returned to training Thursday afternoon, giving the green light for an appearance on Saturday.
Not yet back on the pitch on Thursday was centre back Sokratis, who is bound to bed with a cold. "Papas had a fever last night. We hope that he will get better during the day and get healthy. An easy training could be a possibility tomorrow," said head coach Thomas Schaaf optimistically, hoping Sokratis will be fit in time for an appearance on the weekend. Theo Gebre Selassie will definitely miss the match against Freiburg with his broken hand. "Theo will not be available. The hand is still too swollen, so he cannot wear a sleeve," said the Werder coach.
Schaaf was able to welcome a new face to training as the 20-year-old Omar Jasseh is completing a multi-day tryout with SV Werder. The Gambia native previously was under contract with the San Jose Earthquakes of the North American league MLS but is currently without a club. "I am very happy that I am here in Bremen and can train with the guys. Werder is a big club which I have followed for a long time. We will see how it goes," said the offensive midfielder.
