Just hours after returning from Belek, the Green-Whites continued their preparations for the second half of the season with a training session Friday morning 13 January 2012 on the grounds at Weser Stadium. Head coach Thomas Schaaf was missing seven players for various reasons. After suffering a pelvic bruise in the test match against Alkmaar and being forced out, Philipp Bargfrede was only shortly at training before leaving for treatment. The coaching staff has yet to decide if Bargfrede will play in the Wintercup in Düsseldorf. Definitely out of the tournament will be Andreas Wolf (muscular problems) and Marko Arnautovic (cold).

There is also news about Tim Borowski, who has since been doing his rehab program outside. "I am doing some intensive running sessions at the moment and can also work in the coordinative area. It's just a good feeling not having to break off a run after 10 minutes," said ‘Boro', whose next goal is to complete intensive sprint and shooting drills.

The situation remains the same for Denni Avdic (muscular problems), Naldo (irritation on outside of his left knee) and Aaron Hunt (adductors injury). All three were unable to work out with the team and will not be available for the tournament at the Esprit Arena. While Avdic and Naldo both must wait to see about playing the Bundesliga second half opener, Schaaf said it will take "a bit longer" for Hunt, who is suspended for the match against Kaiserslautern anyhow.
