Thomas Schaaf divided his players into four different teams - each with seven players - for Monday afternoon's training at Weser Stadium. The fact that the Werder coach could even go through this training method was because of the surprising but more than satisfying number of players at training. The 26 players as well as assistant coach Matthias Hönerbach and goalkeeper coach Michael 'Tiger' Kraft played out a mini tournament.

Among the players was returnee Aaron Hunt, who took on preparations with his teammates for the Schalke match after overcoming his infection. The 24-year-old used the weekend off to get back to full strength and work intensively on the next task at hand.

Denni Avdic also returned entirely unscathed Monday afternoon. The Swedish striker was hit a number of times in the face in the Friday night match in Frankfurt and had to be subbed out after 26 minutes. "I am doing a lot better," said Avdic, who did not worry too much about things over the weekend. "Something like that can happen, but I'm not going to think about it anymore. Luckily I wasn't injured seriously," said Avdic. Still the Swede quarrelled that he had to leave the pitch with a bruised cheekbone. "It was unfortunate and sad for me that I had to be taken out so early because it was another chance to showcase myself." Instead he showed himself at the afternoon training as the 22-year-old excelled with his coolness in front of goal and scored a few times.

Defender Naldo by that point had long returned to the catacombs of Weser Stadium. The Brazilian had previously taken his laps around the pitch with physiotherapist Matheus Cardoso and even had the ball with him for the first time. "I only pushed the ball along with my foot and didn't shoot," explained Naldo. "I am taking it step by step and today of course was a great feeling getting closer to the ball again a bit." The Brazilian has increased his training program to 22 minutes and his next session on the pitch will follow on Wednesday.

Naldo wasn‘t the only one to leave the pitch satisfied with a hop in their step as Per Mertesacker, Marko Marin, Tim Borowski & Co. won the mini tournament and had their picture taken by Matthias Hönerbach. Especially successful as goal-getter was keeper Felix Wiedwald, who has only played as position player as he deals with a broken thumb.
