Things have been heated on the training grounds at Weser Stadium for two reasons. On the one hand, the fight for playing time is more heated than ever thanks to the very limited number of injury absences. On the other hand, intensive training was called for at the beginning of the week since the players' day off comes in the middle of the week. Before the players headed off for their day break on Wednesday, athletics training Reinhard Schnittker put the team through a number of intensive sprints. But the players still had a smile on their faces.
"We shouldn't get any thoughts of letting up. And intensive running like today is part of that. Naturally we like to observe how the players react to that and if they even are having fun then it's totally in order," head coach Robin Dutt said, praising the training mentality of his team.
Philipp Bargfrede, Aleksandar Ignjovski and Ludovic Obraniak all returned to training on Tuesday after missing the previous day. The competitive situation is not only felt at the daily training but it also makes nominating game rosters difficult for Dutt. "My players are dealing with this situation in a manner which I have seldom have experienced. Professional is almost a weak term. The behaviour of the players who are not playing or not even in the squad is absolutely team-orientated. It doesn't get much better," said Dutt.
