There was a brief moment of shock at Werder training as Clemens Fritz had to leave the Wednesday afternoon training session early. After the Werder captain received a knock in a tackle during a training game, the 34-year-old left the session but was able to give the all-clear a short time later.
It was purely a precautionary measure. "I had some minor pain afterwards and therefore went into the changing room. I assume that I will be back tomorrow," said Fritz. The same goes for Davie Selke as the 19-year-old striker missed Wednesday training due to a bruise from the Frankfurt match but wants to get back to the training grounds as soon as possible.
While keeper Raphael Wolf remains out with his bruised pelvis, Marnon Busch worked out individually with athletics coach Reinhard Schnittker. After the running sessions of the last couple of weeks, the right back was able to work out with the ball.
There was good news about Melvyn Lorenzen as the young striker trained again with the professional for the first time after a nine-month injury break. Lorenzen celebrated his comeback last Sunday in the U23 team's 1-1 draw against FC St. Pauli II.
