After completing a special rehab program last week for muscular problems, Clemens Fritz returned to team training in full Monday afternoon. "After the precautionary measures from the past few days, I was able to train again today without any problems. I feel fit and am ready for the match on Saturday against Frankfurt," said Werder's right back after Monday's session.

Head coach Robin Dutt was also confident that the 32-year-old captain should be fully able to play by Saturday. "We trained intensively on challenges and he was really able to go at it. I think there won't be any more problems, even though we naturally have to wait the one night," said the coach.

Definitely out initially will be Zlatko Junuzovic, who is missing training due to foot problems. Understandably, Dutt was not exactly pleased with the first diagnosis, especially since the 48-year-old coach had built Junuzovic regularly into his Werder system. "This injury naturally hurts us a lot because Zladdi is a very important player for us," said Dutt. Junuzovic missed Austria's World Cup qualification match on Friday in Munich and had to leave Austrian camp prematurely to return to Bremen on Monday for further tests.

Mateo Pavlovic is also banged up at the moment. But the Croatian will initially train with Werder's U23s after he returns. "I would like to have a competition battle, even down to the second team. At the moment, Oliver Hüsing is making a very good impression and therefore he should get a chance with us," said Dutt about the personnel moves. The Werder coach said he also wants to work on a closer connection between the professional and youth teams for the future. "We generally would like to create a fluid transition between the first and second teams so that the guys see the path to the professional team is not closed. That is a sign to all youngsters that they will get a realistic and fair chance," said Dutt.
