All of Werder's 14 international players who spent the week with their national teams returned healthy to Bremen. "It was not easy this week to work with the team," said Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf.
The Green-Whites were spread out throughout Europe meaning the return of the players came throughout the day Thursday. A large portion of the Bremen internationals arrived at the training grounds during Thursday's session and completed a running program and individual drills. "We will have our first training together on Friday. Then we will see how all the players are feeling and how the players dealt with their trips. It looks like all the players will be available. But we cannot say until tomorrow in what shape they are," said the Werder coach, who welcomed back all of the internationals without injury.
Due to the very short preparation time and the scattered training week, the coach said it's especially important to get ready for the opponent quickly. And the positive experience from the 2-0 win over Hannover should help in those efforts. "We have to recall all of the positives from last weekend. We cannot be satisfied with the Hannover match. We know that we have to play at least at the same level on Saturday to win in Stuttgart," said Schaaf.
